Onosma stellulatum is one of the few species of the genus Onosma in the Croatian flora. The word "sharp leaf" in the name of this plant originates from the numerous stiff hairs with which it is covered almost entirely, which gives a sensation of sharpness to the touch.
They bloom in June and July, depending on the altitude at which they appear. The star sedge inhabits rocky, sunny slopes, especially higher mountain and foothill areas. It is an endemic and relatively rare species, so it is under strict legal protection.
