Capreolus capreolus L. is a species of deer commonly known as roe deer or European roe. The male of the species is sometimes referred to as a roebuck. The roe deer is a small deer, reddish and grey-brown, and well-adapted to cold environments. It is native to Europe, from the Mediterranean to Scandinavia, from Scotland to the Caucasus, and east as far as northern Iran. The species is widespread in Europe and is considered to be of least concern by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
